Castle Oaks Golf Club is one of Northern California's premier courses. Castle Oaks is an 18 hole, Par 71 championship golf course with 5 sets of tees at each hole to accommodate all skill levels.
The professional course length of 6,739 yards will challenge the best golfer. From the forward tees the course measures 4,953 yards. There is a driving range and a snack shop at the Golf Club.

Howard Park is a multi-use recreational complex which is currently being expanded and upgraded. Completed in January 2001 is the
Ed Hughes Memorial Arena, a 200 x 250 ft. covered Equestrian/Multi-purpose Arena for year round events such as equestrian, car and dog shows.
Howard Park is also the hub for local soccer and little leagues. Almost every Saturday, the park fields are in use by recreational leagues. Four large soccer fields, plus softball and baseball diamonds are available for leagues and tournaments. Amador County is bounded on the north by the Cosumnes River, and on the south by the Mokelumne River. Here in the Ione area, there are numerous creeks and streams that invite hiking, exploring and even gold panning!
There are also some 21 major lakes in Amador County. Several of these are within a half hour drive of Ione. These include Camanche, Pardee, Amador and Tabeau. Most of these are open to boating, swimming, fishing, sailing, skin diving and water skiing.
Lake Amador has 14 miles of shoreline and is stocked from a private on-site fish hatchery. No water skiing, jetboats or motorcycles allowed.

Lake Camanche is a popular fishing site for trout and bass. The resort offers fishing boat rentals, berthing, and launch ramp. Water skiing is allowed.

An hour and a half east of Ione on scenic highway 88 is Kirkwood Ski Area, which consistently boasts the deepest snow pack in the United States, and offers some of the finest skiing to be found anywhere.
Hunting is one of the major sports in the Ione area. This includes deer and other small game and birds. There are several hunting and sportsmen's clubs that have trap and skeet ranges. Duck and geese blinds are available on two of the lakes, Amador and Camanche.
